Close the Gap Day: March 21

To commemorate National Close the Gap Day (March 21) the Tom Price team hosted stall in the town square to talk with the community about what has been achieved since the strategy launched over 10 years ago.

The Closing the Gap strategy is aimed at reducing the ‘gap’ in health and life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians.

Launched in  2008 by the Coalition of Australian Governments (COAG), it targets 7 areas, including; school attendance, completion of year 12, employment, life expectancy, child mortality, reading and numeracy and early childhood education.

IBN staff spent the morning speaking with visitors to the stall about the achievements, and failings of the campaign so far.
