Labours First Nations Caucus visits the Pilbara
IBN hosted a visit from a number of ALP MP’s connected to Labours First Nations Caucus as part of their road trip tour across the Pilbara and Kimberly.
The group, which includes Senator Pat Dodson and Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney, MP is travelling across country to speak with Indigenous people about issues impacting their communities.
IBN Board members and staff spoke with the Ministers about issues such as housing affordability, unemployment and the Pilbaras high levels of diabetes and other chronic health concerns.
Senator Dodson said the trip was an opportunity for Indigenous people in the region to have direct access to MP’s from the Federal Government.
“People outside of the Eastern seaboard don’t often get the chance to have their voices heard,” he said.
“So much of what government does is focused in the Eastern States. We want to give people the chance to speak with us directly about the real issues that are affecting them and their families.”
