Marnta Wanhthalala – Placing the Stone On project aims to acknowledge past family members by placing memorial stones on unmarked burial sites.
Throughout the Pilbara, the burial sites of some Aboriginal people have not yet been marked as their final resting place. The IBN membership has asked for help to have memorial stones placed on these burial sites. This will provide healing and remembrance for their family members and communities.
The project aims to identify unmade burial sites. Priority will be given to the ‘older’ burials, particularly those known only by Elders. This project will pay respect to those who have passed and provide future generations with a physical link to their ancestors. It will also help IBN people document their family history for safe keeping.
