On Wednesday 9th November 2022, the Wakuthuni Community hosted the launch of the reprinted book Wakuthuni MINGNUMULDA GARNDI NULLY Book for teaching bush food and plants and their uses authored by Lola Young and members of Wakuthuni Community.

The re-printing of this book formed part of IBN’s Language, Lore, and Culture program.  It was initiated by Caroline Lee, Ex-Community and Member Services Manager, in response to a request from family of the late Mrs. Young and members of the Wakuthuni Community.

Elaine Kite, Project Officer – Language, Lore and Culture was charged with ensuring all administrative tasks including liaison with publishers and providing them with details of the book.   She also met with members of Mrs. Young’s family and members of Wakuthuni community to ensure their permission was for the re-print was provided.

The book launch was attended by Elaine and staff from IBN’s Tom Price Office who were instrumental in working with the Wakuthuni Community, to organize the venue and cater for the event.

Other guests attending the launch included staff from various agencies and organizations in and near Tom Price.  All were welcomed to both Country and to celebrate this special event by Mr. Brendan Cooke.

Education Officer Jugari ( Joyce) Drummond has supported and seen many IBN kids through their education journey.

“ Education is so important for our kids and it is good for parents and carers to look at enrolling your children in schools that may offer different educational experiences.”

Most recently she has been working with Yinhawangka member Ivan Smirke and son Latham to enrol in a boarding school down south next year.

Congratulations Latham, we wish you all the best next year as you continue your education journey.

If you would like any more information about any of our education programs, please feel free to call and speak to our Education Officer Jugari (Joyce) Drummond
